The D.A.V College Trust and Management Society renamed as Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan, U.P., Kanpur was Established in 1982 in U.P. in memory of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, one of the architects of modern india. He stood for the revival and propagation of Vedic Dharma in its pristine purity, giving mankind on incentive to mould a way of life, sublime and nobel. With the prime objectof ameliorating, spiritual and, social conditions of all men without any distinction of caste, colour of creed. This was to be achieved through the vital task of dispeling ignorance and promoting knowladge.
The beginning was very modest one as a:, night school at meerut. in 1940, it was shifted to Dehradun where Thakur Negi Puram Singh Ji, a philanthropist, bequeathed his moveable and immoveable property worth Rs. 2 lacs, Later in 1907, a night school was established at Kanpur. Which was soon converted and developed in to a day school. The school at Dehradun and Kanpur later blossomed into High School.
In 1919 the then society with Rai Bahadur Babau Anand Swarup and Munsi Jwala Prasad, Sri Brijendra Swarup as President, Secretary and Joint Secretary respectively founded the D.A.V. college at Kanpur.
Prior july 1958, D.V.A. College, Kanpur conducted the teaching of the classes,in Law,as its own Department, which was given over to his college on its formation in the year 1958,with the effort of Dr. Virendra Swarup, the then President of the D.A.V. College Trust and Management Society, Dayanand College of Law, was started in 1958,as the only institutation of its type exclusively devoted to the teaching of Law in all its implication. it was then affiliated to the Agra University and was inaugurated on 15-07-1958 by the education Minister Pt.Kamlapati Tripathi.
The valuable contribution of our former Kuladhipati, Dr. Virendra Swarup made it possible for this college to make its own place in the sphere of legal education in this state inspite of difficulties and limitations.
The Dayanand College of Law, is in many ways a unique institution, conscious of its distinctive entity as a College of Law. Its efficient teaching staff and its - management, the most enlightened in the state helped to maintain its individual identity, and contributed handsomely, with initiative and endeavour, towards its expansion off this institution which has come into prominence as premier College of Law of, its kind in Uttar Pradesh. The study of law and equity, in particular and of one's awareness not merely of legal but moral sanctions and security accorded to society in part of a liberal education which this college provides to its alumni, not shallow droughts, but abundantly in good measure before they are regular practitioner's in a 'court of Law. This institution placed occasionally in circumstances not wholly favourable, was often at odds with many obstacles that came its way. These were overcomed by what appeared to be the crusading spirit of those associated with this college and the massive generosity of the University Grants Commission which will not only ease financial strains but also carry with it a guarantee of its continual progress.
It will be an act of fill grace not to gratfully acknowledge the massive generosity of the University Grants commission, New Delhi, whose benefactions have gone into the making of our College, New Library Building by sanctioning us grants of a magnificent sum of money for its construction where our library exists. The new Library Building has come into shape and stand as a 42'x 65' in keeping with the dignity of a Law College.
The College is a Co-educational institution and provides all facilities to Girl students.
At present, the Sansthan manages and controls 21 institutions at Kanpur, dehradun, Unnao, Lucknow and Raibarelly.
